Augustine Francis Fitzgerald (1861)
The plaque reads ...
On the 2nd December 1861, Augustine Francis Fitzgerald, aged 19 years, died at sea by falling from the mast head of the barque Offley .
The deceased was the senior apprentice on board the whaling vessel, and acted in the capacity of clerk and storekeeper.
His sterling honesty and integrity of purpose justly earned for him the good opinions of all on board. His loss has been severely felt by Captain Robinson, to whom he was very much attached.
